As you may be aware Yarram Herd Services had a significant fire event in the early hours of the 17th of September, 2019. The building was gutted, and all semen and much of the herd testing equipment was destroyed.
We have been working hard over the last few weeks to get our operations back up and running, gaining a new premises and replacing much of our equipment.
~Herd Testing~
All our Electronic Milk Meters have all been destroyed while a significant number of the traditional meters were lost. However, we have now managed to replace most of our Traditional meters and have a total of 90 meters that are available for farms which gives us a greater flexibility in completing herd tests. We have fully replaced our crates and our lids.
We still have a herd test officer sampling available to help you if needed, with our former EMM clients being offered either to return to the traditional method of AM/PM or to complete just a single test with a Herd Test Officer assisting.
With daily runs to Korumburra being made to ensure we can get the results processed as quick as we can to our clients.
We will be in contact with farmers for their up and coming herd tests, and hope our farmers will be patient with us while we work out the kinks.
~Calf Dehorning~
Our Calf Dehorning services has continued as per normal with no disruption being made, with bookings being taken. We’ve had positive feedback from many of our clients since we have started using Tri-Solfen with the calves being more settled after the procedure. Just a reminder to all of our clients to book in any calves that you may have left before they get to large to handle.
~AI Service~
Our AI Service has continued unaffected by the incident, and heading in the peak of the season our AI techs are all set to service our farmers as needed. Please call Alan today if you are requiring our service soon, to ensure we can include you in one of our runs.
~Semen~
Semen will be packed and delivered on farm as required. Some farm tanks have been destroyed but we will have enough tanks to ensure you will have one on farm when required and our intention it to have these replaced. As a gesture of good will we intend to replace current stock purchased (in the last twelve month) through the center as best we can. Older stock depreciates quickly, and we use production costs less depreciation on semen older than twelve months. If you have your semen and or tank insured privately please let us know so we can send you the appropriate information.
~Dairy Cow Challenge~
It’s been decided that we will push ahead with the planned Dairy Cow Challenge for 2019, with a judge already being organized and entries being taken. We encourage all our farmers to participate and support this significant community event. With Judging to commence Mid-November, winners to be announced at our AGM with the awards being given on Show Day, November, 2019.
~AGM~
We plan to have our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday the 13th of November, 2019. The Yarram Country Club will be the venue this year, with more details to come. We encourage our farmers to attend, as it is a great social night out. As per normal with our board rotation, 2 positions will become available- nomination forms are available from our office. We will give a formal update on our progress with the Yarram Herd Services, to keep our farmers up-to-date with our current and future plans.
The staff and committee appreciate all the support we have received from: customers, suppliers and the dairy industry as a whole, it is greatly appreciated. We will be working with you our customers to ensure the service to you runs as smooth as possible.
Thank you for your ongoing support and if you have any questions or require additional information, please contact us at any time.
